Explain whether the entrance is private or shared
For CCTV at a Woolwich property, identify the space you want to see and who controls it. A camera for a private doorway differs from a system serving a communal entrance or several business users. Establish the decision-maker and the intended access to recordings before positions are selected.
Describe what needs to be visible at the important point. A wide approach view and a close doorway view may serve different purposes. The proposal should explain the intended result rather than rely on camera count as a measure of coverage.
Include building and installation requirements
Where heritage or owner restrictions apply to the address, raise them before external equipment or cable routes are agreed. Tell us about shared cupboards, network access and the proposed recorder location. These arrangements can require coordination with building management.
Explain lighting and normal obstructions. If an existing system is being reviewed, describe whether the problem is the image, the view or using the recordings. Suitability of retained equipment should be assessed as part of the complete proposal.
Make operation clear at handover
Choose an account administrator and authorised viewers. Ask how long recordings are intended to remain available, how clips are retrieved and what remote viewing depends on. Make any ongoing costs explicit. Consult the relevant ICO guidance for the planned use, particularly in shared or workplace areas. During handover, practise playback and export so the finished installation provides usable recordings, not simply a live picture.
