Give the wider view a defined purpose
For an Erith property with a yard, parking area or approach, explain what you need the footage to show. An overview can help explain movement, while a closer entrance view may be needed for useful detail. Discuss those jobs separately rather than expecting one position to cover every distance equally well.
If you want to review vehicles, describe the actual requirement and conditions. General surveillance should not be treated as a promise of reliable number-plate capture. Ask the team to assess that expectation explicitly.
Allow for ordinary obstructions
Tell us where vehicles stop, where doors or gates open and whether stored items change position. The scene during a survey may differ from normal operation. Lighting after dark and access to camera positions also belong in the brief.
Where outside space is shared, identify who can approve installation and who will control recordings. Include any relevant property restrictions before mounting locations and cable routes are agreed. A retained camera needs to fit the new recording arrangement, not simply remain because it is already mounted.
Agree practical recording access
Choose the responsible account holder and the people who need viewing rights. Discuss recording duration, playback and exporting clips, together with any network or subscription requirements. At handover, have an authorised user retrieve a sample recording.
