Specify the purpose at each position
For Dartford business premises, distinguish a camera showing people at an entrance from one giving an overview of a loading or working area. At home, separate a door view from a wider driveway view. Explain what you need to understand from the footage before asking how many cameras are required.
Where a yard or approach is shared, establish who controls the space and who will administer the recordings. Your right to occupy one unit should not be treated as approval to install equipment anywhere on the site.
Include access and obstructions
Tell us about delivery vehicles, shutters or stored items that may block a proposed view. A design considered only with the site empty may overlook normal conditions. Describe the lighting after closing time and any weaknesses in the current footage.
Discuss how engineers will reach mounting positions and where cables, power and recording equipment can be accommodated. If a building has relevant restrictions, provide those details before positions are finalised. Existing cameras may be assessed for retention, but compatibility should be confirmed.
Agree how the system will be used
Identify the person responsible for user accounts and playback. Discuss the recording history you need, how clips can be exported and what remote viewing depends on. Make any subscription costs clear in the quotation. At handover, have an authorised user find and replay an event. Review the relevant ICO guidance for the premises and coverage so the operation of the system is considered alongside the technical installation.
