Begin with the doorway or approach
For CCTV at a Brockley flat or house, explain exactly what you need to see and why. An entrance view intended to show a caller should be considered differently from a general view across a shared front area. Identify your boundary and who manages any communal surface where equipment might be fitted.
Where the building has a relevant conservation designation, check the address and raise any restrictions early. A proposed camera location should account for those requirements alongside image quality and practical access for installation.
Make the view useful in normal conditions
Tell us about recessed entrances, changing light or objects that regularly obstruct the approach. A position that looks ideal with the door closed and the area empty may be less useful in everyday use. For replacement equipment, describe the weakness in the present footage so the quotation addresses it.
Consider where the recorder and internet connection sit within your own premises. A route through someone else's accommodation or a locked communal cupboard needs coordination; it should not be assumed available.
Establish who controls recordings
Decide who can view footage and who manages account access. For communal arrangements, that responsibility needs to be settled before installation, with the relevant ICO guidance considered. Ask the engineer to demonstrate playback and exporting a clip, not simply the live camera view. If phone viewing is included, confirm what depends on the internet connection and whether the selected setup involves an ongoing service charge.
