Treat appearance as part of the brief
When planning CCTV for a Blackheath property, explain where visible equipment would be a concern. A proposed position has to provide the required view while also fitting the confirmed constraints of the building. Check any relevant conservation, listed-building or owner requirements for the address before agreeing external work.
A camera that is less noticeable is not automatically better if it cannot show the entrance properly. Describe the outcome you need, such as seeing a caller at the door, so the position can be assessed against a clear purpose.
Keep boundaries in the conversation
If a forecourt, entrance or path is shared, identify who controls it and who should be consulted. The recording view should be deliberate, particularly near other homes. Consult the relevant ICO guidance rather than assuming domestic ownership removes every responsibility when cameras look outside your own space.
Explain changing light and regular obstructions. A sheltered doorway, reflective surface or nearby planting may affect the useful image. If you already have cameras, tell us when the footage becomes unclear so the team can assess the cause.
Plan the equipment behind the view
The recorder, power and network route need as much agreement as the camera itself. Discuss where authorised users can access the controls and whether phone viewing is required. Ask about storage, account ownership and any recurring costs. At handover, review recorded footage as well as the live image and practise locating a specific event. A tidy installation should still be straightforward to operate and maintain.
