Include a home office or separate building explicitly
For an Orpington alarm enquiry, say whether a garage, office or other building belongs in the protected scope. Explain when it is occupied and whether someone needs access while the main premises is set. That routine should be discussed before assuming the entire address can be treated as one area.
At a business, the equivalent may be a store or workroom with different hours from the main unit. Identify who is responsible for opening and closing each space so the operating arrangement is understandable.
Assess connections and retained equipment
Tell us about existing wiring and equipment, available access and planned building work. The suitability of wired or wireless elements needs assessment against the actual property. Distance, construction and intended use should not be reduced to a product choice made before the survey conversation.
If an old installation is being extended, ask what can be supported and what needs replacement. Include any known maintenance agreement and written insurer requirements. Relevant owner or heritage restrictions on equipment positions should also be raised early.
Plan for use when you are away
Discuss who can act on an activation and whether monitoring is required. Ask about the response arrangements and ongoing cost rather than assuming these follow automatically from installation. During handover, practise the intended combinations of occupied and protected areas. The quotation should identify which spaces are included, how users operate them and what maintenance is proposed. Keep the instructions and records accessible to the people responsible for the system.
